‘Some of my favourite memories from childhood were waiting at the bus stop for the arrival of the evening Bus Eireann bus. The anticipation of the arrival of my Auntie Peggy, my godmother always brought huge excitement.
She would arrive with a large bag of sweets from Cudmores on Patrick’s St, in Cork, a beautiful old sweet shop with curved glass windows. At Halloween she would bring Witches hats and masks, the like of which couldn’t be found in West Cork in those days.
I think people have forgotten how remote we were back then, trips to Cork were a once yearly expedition at most.
My aunt brought storytelling, chatter, laughter and card playing to the house for a few days. Then we would sadly wave her off on the bus for another year but my dreams were filled with Iced Caramels, Milky Moos, Bullseyes, Sherbet Lemons, Apple & Pear Drops, Bon Bons, Satin Pillows, Foxes Glacier Mints and happiness.’
Ah such wonderful memories…………
MAGICAL STORY.
Wonderful.
