People of the Wild Atlantic Way –
Eileen Hayes – Rosscarbery, West Cork.
‘My favourite memory from childhood –
Having grown up on a farm, there was never a dull moment. The highlight of the year was always the treshing. Eight to ten neighbours would come and help and we looked forward to a half day from school. Of course we would run most of the two and a half miles home that day. Our job was to help fill the bags with grain. When the hard work was finally complete, we all proceeded inside for food. A bottle of Guinness and spinning of yarns were just rewards for the men who had worked tirelessly. We would also enjoy playing in the chaff with our friends afterwards.’
Lovely description of a more innocent time only yesterday!!!!!!!!!!
Lovely photo and words Eileen.
